COMMUNITY SPIRIT BUILDS AS LOCAL BUSINESSES GET BEHIND URBANA
Ottawa, ON – Dharma Developments' 2nd Annual Gala Fundraising Event, URBANA, is set for Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Government Conference Centre from 7-10 pm. With only 7 days remaining to get tickets, the business community is taking notice and getting involved. To date, seven local businesses have joined in the fun as Community Partners for URBANA.
The community of Ottawa was incredibly supportive of this initiative last year, helping URBANA to
sell out at 300 tickets and to raise over $20,000 to support the prevention of homelessness in
Ottawa. This year the proceeds target will certainly reach new heights. Community partners have
collectively pitched in over $10,000 in sponsorship funds and purchased bulk tickets to help make
this event another success. Corporate sponsors include: Axionic Digital Media, Gowlings
LLP, Direct Energy, Equity Realty Group, Mary-Anne Gillespie of Coldwell Banker Realty, Nelligan
O'Brien Payne, and Uniglobe Premiere Travel.
This cocktail party is being held in one of Ottawa's most unique urban spaces – the old Railway
Station entering from Colonel By Drive. The evening includes live jazz with the Kelly Craig Sextet,
tasty canapes by Culinary Conspiracy, and a giant URBANA bingo game that will raise additional
proceeds during the event, with six magnificent prize packages to be won.
This year’s proceeds from URBANA are supporting the national charity Raising the Roof, and
locally to Cornerstone, a community organization committed to improving the lives of homeless
women. “This event is about the Ottawa community supporting fellow citizens in their time of
need”, says Sue Garvey, Director of Cornerstone.
Dharma Developments will continue to host URBANA annually, raising awareness in Ottawa with
the end goal of eliminating homelessness.
