Ottawa, ON – Dharma Developments' 2 nd annual URBANA held last Friday evening at the Government Conference Centre brought together an exciting mixture of guests in support of Cornerstone Housing in Ottawa, and Raising the Roof, a charitable organization that helps to prevent homelessness across Canada. Between ticket sales, outstanding community sponsorship and a nail-biting URBANA bingo game, over $20,000 was raised again this year.
Five lucky bingo game winners eagerly claimed their prizes graciously donated by local businesses. The grand prize winner took home an all expenses paid trip for two to the Alpine Resort of Fernie in British Columbia courtesy of WestJet and Rocky Mountain Vacations. Other fabulous prizes included an Ultimate Food & Wine Experience for 8 guests at the Urban Element with Groovy Grapes, and a Bespoke Tailored Suit from Uncommon Thread.
Media partners Axionic Digital Media, the A-Channel and Metro News Ottawa provided superb event promotion. Major Partners Gowlings LLP, Direct Energy, and Equity Realty along with Community Partners FoTenn Urban Planners, Mary-Anne Gillespie at Coldwell Banker First Ottawa, Loeb Glebe, and Nelligan O'Brien Payne graciously sponsored the event.
The message at URBANA was clearly about community spirit. The evening's host, Akash Sinha of Dharma Developments, warmed the crowd with an opening speech about his personal commitment to help raise awareness, educate and improve affordable housing in Ottawa. He commended the guests' efforts in attending URBANA, highlighting the importance of responsible governance, good business economics and citizenship that is essential for a healthy community.
Susan Garvey, Director of Cornerstone was thrilled with the event and reinforced the positive value of community spirit in action. The event was attended by the Mayor of Ottawa, Mr. Chiarelli along with M.P. Ottawa Centre Mr. Paul Dewar, Councillors Diane Holmes and Rainer Bloess, and mayoral candidate Mr. Alex Munter.
Dharma Developments will continue to host URBANA annually, raising awareness in Ottawa with the end goal of eliminating homelessness.
