From Brenda Allard, Youth Engagement Project Leader:
It has been an incredible opportunity to work with Dharma Developments on creating a fundraiser for some of the most vulnerable citizens of our city, homeless youth.
The Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa serves youth aged 12 and older, with primary emphasis placed on housing and homelessness issues. Many of the youth have experienced this in their own history and are continually faced with issues that surround poverty. YSB supports the development of youth leadership and empowers young people to develop and use their own voice to create social change and to have a direct impact on their futures.
The goals of YSB are to focus on youth with difficulties affecting their physical and/or emotional well-being and development. We support youth in making positive health and lifestyle decisions. We are committed to creating a safe, non-judgemental environment in which young people, when they express themselves, are recognized and valued as individuals. We do so by providing current, accurate information about the options available to young people regarding their basic needs and lifestyle choices. The impact can be tremendous in assisting them to regain stability in their lives and to become self sufficient and empower themselves to create a healthier way of living.
Thank you to Dharma Developments for their energy and commitment towards the issue of homelessness and the respect in which they demonstrate towards the clientele.
It is really great to see a young company taking the lead towards reducing homelessness. It has been a great opportunity for YSB to work with such a dedicated group of people.
